National Early Music Association
Founded in 1981
The National Early Music Association UK was formed in 1981, as one outcome of the 1977 London conference entitled 'The future of early music in Britain'. There was felt to be a need for a coordinating body for the many strands of early musical activity in Britain, and NEMA was set up to meet this need, and to promote the appreciation and performance (both amateur and professional) of Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and later music. NEMA now works alongside the established regional Early Music fora, which run practical workshops and courses, and other early music organisations in Britain and throughout the world.
It has produced numerous publications (currently Early Music Performance and Research and the NEMA Newsletter, both twice yearly), and iorganizes regular academic conferences and other events.
Registered Charity No.297300.
